Coffee By Westgate

O nas.

In 2016 our family went on a short trip to Italy which was the first of many and planted the seed that we wanted to offer something special.

At the time our son was only one year old and we felt embraced by the culture and hospitality, whether from passing strangers on the street and hearing 'bel bambio' or in a restaurant and being blown away by the simple, yet complex tasting food. Gnocchi was our little one's favourite.

It wasn't however until one rainy morning that we found ourselves looking for shelter in a coffee shop and ordering an espresso for 1 euro. At the time our expectations were low and we were just happy to take shelter with something hot, like how can you expect a good drink for just a euro? But we were wrong. The coffee had a strong, rich depth to it which was only surpassed by the simplicity of the moment.

It was at this point we realised something most cultures have forgotten but Italy has held on to. On a rainy morning, with a newspaper and a small one euro coffee you can have a moment, not too long but significant enough to impact you, whether for the day, week or a lifetime, which was in our case.

We decided then and there to bring this experience to our home. Sadly the days of a one euro coffee are behind us but that doesn't need to take away from the experience. Whether your special place is in your kitchen, garden or we hope one day in our Coffee House, our specially selected and expertly, fresh roasted coffee will help you get there.

Whether starting a busy day or being with friends and family we hope you can taste our experience in yours through our coffee.

Not being shy of a challenge I started my roasting journey on my own learning from my mistakes, successes and asking for help along the way. Roasting is both a science and art form, like crossing Star Wars with Star Trek. Something only a nerd of their art would understand.

When you leave education and head into the World of business you would think that will be the end of learning. The truth can not be further. Bringing skills from other industries whilst being mindful of the journey we want our customers to experience can be a challenging but rewarding experience, cup after cup...
